Chawla PVC Board Designs: The Short Answer

Chawla PVC board designs fall into five families in the catalog we publish: Solid Colours, the Lamination Series, Hot Stamping, the New Lamination Series, and the Fluted Wall Panel Series. Laminated designs come in either a matt or a glossy finish depending on the design code, and the hot-stamped designs carry a UV finish. Choose by where the board is going: plain solid colours for carcasses, laminated or hot-stamped designs for visible doors, and fluted panels for feature walls.

Janjua Timber Merchant is an authorized Chawla PVC dealer, so you can ask us about any design below.

Key points

  • The Chawla PVC catalog is for Boardlite, made by Crystal Synthetic (Pvt) Ltd, described as a project of the Chawla Group.
  • Design codes starting with M are laminated or hot-stamped designs; the catalog lists which are matt, glossy or UV.
  • The Black Ace fluted wall panel series is included in the same catalog.
  • Always approve the final design on a physical sample, not a screen.

What Is Boardlite?

The catalog introduces Boardlite as a "reliable wood substitute": a PVC board used in place of wood or MDF for furniture, vanities and cabinets. Its listed applications are wardrobes, cut-outs, and kitchen cabinets and carcass.

The features listed in the catalog are:

  • 100% water proof
  • Fire proof (self extinguishing)
  • Smooth glossy finish
  • Light weight
  • Easily fabricated
  • Durable
  • 100% termite proof
  • No toxic gas release
  • Environment friendly material

The Five Design Families in the Catalog

Solid Colours

The first section of the catalog shows plain, self-coloured boards, starting with PVC-White. The catalog's comparison with wooden cabinets points out that Boardlite has self colours, while wood needs to be coated. Solid colours are the natural choice for cabinet carcasses, shelves, the insides of wardrobes, and clean, minimal doors.

Lamination Series

The Lamination Series applies a printed decorative paper to the board, with wood-grain designs such as PVC-M01. This is where you find the timber looks that let a PVC kitchen or wardrobe resemble a wooden one without the maintenance.

Hot Stamping

Hot-stamped designs form their own section. The catalog's note lists M29 to M38 as "Hot Stamping With UV", so these designs carry a UV finish over the pattern.

New Lamination Series

A further, newer set of laminated designs that extends the colour and pattern choice for shutters and feature panels.

Fluted Wall Panel Series

The last and one of the largest sections is the Black Ace fluted wall panel series, with designs such as FWP-White. Fluted panels have vertical grooves and are used to create feature walls behind beds, TV units, and in reception areas.

Matt or Glossy? Reading the Finish Codes

The back page of the Chawla PVC catalog gives an "Important Note" that tells you the finish of each laminated code:

FinishDesign codes listed in the catalogGood for
Lamination, matt finish paperM01 to M11, M16 to M22, M27, M58, M61 to M64, M66 to M70Natural wood looks, low glare, hiding fingerprints
Lamination, glossy finish paperM12 to M15, M23 to M28, M55, M56, M57, M59, M60, M65Bright, reflective, modern fronts
Hot stamping with UVM29 to M38Feature doors and accent panels

M27 appears in both the matt and glossy lists as printed, so confirm that one on a physical sample before ordering.

Choosing between matt and glossy

  • Matt finishes look more like real timber, show fewer fingerprints and reflect less light. They suit wardrobes, bedrooms and busy family kitchens.
  • Glossy finishes make a room feel brighter and more modern, and wipe clean easily, but they show fingerprints and fine scratches more readily. They suit wall units, display cabinets and smaller kitchens that need light.
  • Mixing works well: glossy wall units above matt base units is a common, balanced combination.

Matching the Design to the Room

Kitchens

Use a solid colour for carcasses and a laminated design for shutters. Because Boardlite is listed as 100% water proof, it is a strong choice for the sink base. For a full comparison with LMDF and UV board, see PVC vs LMDF vs UV board for kitchen cabinets.

Wardrobes

A matt wood-grain lamination on the doors with white solid-colour interiors gives a bright, easy-to-clean wardrobe.

Bathrooms and vanities

Vanities are one of the catalog's named applications. Choose a design you can wipe down easily, and seal all joints to keep water out.

Feature walls

A Black Ace fluted panel behind a bed or TV unit adds texture without heavy construction work.

How to Choose a Design With Confidence

  1. Browse the catalog first. View or download the Chawla PVC catalog (PDF), also listed on our catalogs page, and note the codes you like.
  2. Check the finish code against the table above.
  3. See a physical sample. Screen and print colours never match a real board exactly.
  4. Ask about availability for your chosen codes before finalising drawings.
  5. Share your cabinet list so we can prepare a free estimate of boards needed.
